Johnstone Strait
The Canadian West Coast has become a popular ocean kayaking destination in the past decade and the Johnstone Strait, at the northeast of Vancouver Island, is internationally recognized as the best location to see orca whales in the wild. Nearly 300 orcas (a.k.a. killer whales) congregate here each summer between June and September. Imagine paddling alongside these magnificent creatures, only yards from your kayak. But there is more to the Johnstone Strait than whales. The pristine beauty of its rocky shores, many coves and tidal inlets are teaming with marine life of every kind.
Our camps are located in prime orca habitat and gives us a variety of paddling routes to choose from. The kayaking is made easier as we do not need to carry any equipment or provisions. We spend the days simply enjoying the wildlife and exquisite seascapes knowing that a hot meal and shower awaits us at our camp each evening. Ocean kayak touring is among the fastest growing leisure activities in North America, and its popularity is easily explained. It is a means of discovery that is accessible to people of all ages, and on our trip no previous kayaking experience. Our trip allows participants to choose options each day that match their personal level of fitness or simply relax with a good book and a pair of binoculars.
