The wilds of British Columbia offer a varied terrain for rafters, from massive glaciers of the upper Chilko to the incredible canyons of the Taseko. There is truly no other place like it. We’ll be rafting through a variety of eco-climatic zones and hiking in beautiful meadows, along tributary creeks and on top of lava-cap plateaus. Green-ribboned valleys and sharp-edged peaks make up this region’s mountain land. The variety of scenery on this expedition unfolds in delightful, constantly changing vistas.

Notes from the River - A letter from Brian McCutcheon
Lately there has been a trend toward shorter, and in this case, more intense holiday get-a-ways. This journey of discovery has evolved from the suggestions of many of our past Chilko-Chilcotin-Fraser guests. Sitting around the campfire, elated after an 18-mile non-stop descent of Lava Canyon’s Class IV whitewater (the most continuous commercial stretch of whitewater in North America), many of our guests pleaded with the guides for more of the same. Now we have it.
With a descent of the Chilko’s formidable Lava Canyon combined with a heli-assisted run of the Taseko River this package will keep whitewater enthusiasts grinning from start to finish. This program is ideal for those on tight timelines or wishing to have a quality whitewater experience in the shortest time possible.
The combination of a private charter flight over countless glaciers, tumultuous rapids with heli-support, breathtaking scenery and world-class cuisine make for an unforgettable 5-day, 4-night package of challenge and excitement. This first-ever combination of heli-assisted runs of Lava Canyon and Taseko Falls will fill any intrepid adventurer’s void.
Brian McCutcheon founded Rivers & Oceans in 1985 and has been operating rafting and kayaking trips in British Columbia since the late eighties. In 2000, we changed to Rivers Oceans And Mountains as the addition of “mountains” better reflects the topography of the regions we visit. The new company, R.O.A.M., offers three distinctly different styles of adventures into the Chilcotin - the Multi-sport, Wildwater Week (camping) and Chilko-Taseko Heli-Adventure. For this reason, R.O.A.M. was selected by ESPN to help facilitate the filming of the “Wild Rules” reality series at Chilko Lake. When not out on the water, Brian is the Managing Director of R.O.A.M. from our offices in Nelson, British Columbia.
