ROAM - Rivers Oceans & Mountains

Sea Kayaking on Chilko Lake with Rivers, Oceans and Mountains

Our Company

Who are these people and where are they taking me?

Mark Trueman

If you've traveled in ROAM's wilderness, chances are you've met a man with a big red beard and a penchant for Monty Python. This could only be Mark Trueman: a man who loves to share his expertise and love of rivers with anyone who'll listen.

Tamar Glouberman

Tamar was born and raised in Montreal but admits her real love is the West.  A writer by trade (check out her new murder mystery that takes place in Grand Canyon), Tamar brings an infectously friendly demeanor, outstanding boat handling and an easy going attitude on all her trips.

David Knox, BS, MS, Dr. TCM

In addition to guiding trips, Dave has a master’s degree in plant ecology and is a certified doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dave was also a wildlife biologist and ecologist in Guatemala and the British Virgin Islands and yes, he's fluent in Spanish.  Needless to say, he loves plants and wilderness exploration.

Laurie Knox, BPE, MA, RAC

Laurie has enjoyed teaching and guiding in the outdoors for over 15 years.  specializing in kayaking and leadership development. Lauire has taught outdoor education and eco-adventure tourism courses at the University of Alberta, Lakeland College, Red Deer College, and Mount Royal College.  As registered acupuncturist, which includes training in Tuina Chinese Massage, she also practices yoga and tai chi and has integrated simple warm up and cool down sessions as part of her guiding and outdoor trips.

Barbara Gosney, CCH, HMC

Barb guides extensively in the Johnstone Strait off of Vancouver Island, and in the Kootenay Lake region.  Certified as a Homeopathic Master Clinician, Barb has operated a clinic in Nelson for nine years.  Barb fell in love with kayaking and her enthusiasm and sense of adventure inspires all of our travelers she guides.

Pete Gosney

A contractor by trade and surfer/snowboarder/paddler by heart, Pete made the move from the UK to the Kootenays more than a decade ago and never looked back.  Having guided on the Tatshenshini, Chilko, Colorado, and Klinaklini rivers, Pete has settled comfortably into early retirement by leading trips to the Galapagos, Johnstone Strait and of course, the Kootenays.

Mary Lynne McCutcheon

An avid paddler with unyielding good disposition, ML is our “go to” leader when it comes to trips on the West Coast or Galapagos.  A former provincial team kayaker and Butterfield & Robinson guide, Mary Lynne also has the dubious distinction of being Brian McCutcheon’s “much older” sibling.

John Reed

With 20 years of guiding experience in places like Papua New Guinea, Australia, Baja California Sur and Canada, John specializes in scouting and location management for films and documentaries.  Recent clients include: ESPN, Disney, Paul Gilman Productions, Pilot Productions, Mess Media, Tommy Baynard/ Trans Global TV Group.

Ted Bilton & Liz Webber

Based out of Lake Louise, Alberta, in the summer and globe trotting in the winter months, this dynamic duo have been delivering adventure experiences for more than two decades.  Ted and Liz are best known for their insider’s perspective to the Rockies but now spend winters guiding ROAM trips in South America.

Rex Meyers

Also known as “Sweet Daddy Rescue”, Rex is a swiftwater rescue examiner, EMT, registered nurse, risk management specialists and ropes expert.  And you should see what he does for his day job – certified chef. Famous for being one of ROAM’s first guides, Rex does not like us to mention that he started with ROAM 21 years ago.
